About Lifeguard Training

The Darien YMCA offers the latest course in nationally recognized American Red Cross and YMCA Lifeguard Training. This course will teach lifeguards the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies.

Certifications included in this class include:

  • CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (valid for 2 years)
  • First Aid (valid for 2 years)
  • Lifeguard Training (valid for 2 years)

Requirements and other details

Participants must be a minimum of 15 years old and be able to pass swimming prerequisites. No refunds given to those who cannot pass the prerequisites. All course materials are included.

LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION- FULL COURSE, Blended Learning:

The blended learning Lifeguarding classes combine the traditional classroom environment along with online learning. Participants complete all required lecture materials via online video and attend in person for rescue skills and testing.

WATERFRONT LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION:

The Waterfront skills module is to teach lifeguards the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to emergencies in open-water areas. Candidates must possess a current American Red Cross Lifeguard certificate to participate in the Waterfront module.
